Phantom Tollbooth - One Way Conversation (1987) I first heard a track of Phantom Tollbooth on the „New York Noise “Tape Compilation Tape. Completely large „power trio “- rock band, for me the ultimate fusion of virtuosos, meaningful and kickass. I like that Dave Rick actually could also sing to its Gitarreneskapaden. I unfortunately never got to see them live. While perhaps many hear Prog here, I found the atmosphere rather sportiv. In addition: Rickenbacker bass, which changed my life.

"Phantom Tollbooth... ah this is a sort of classic from when indie rock first got progressive. Lots'a complicated changes...sort of sloppy but somehow this is a seminal record. People like Season to Risk creamed themselves when they saw this on the wall because this is like the first time people did stuff that like was really hard to play and called it indie rock."
